Emma

When I was 7 years old, I picked up my first copy of Total Girl magazine (if you know, you know.)

Somewhere between meticulously researched articles on Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s Slumber Party Tips, brooding posters of Avril Lavigne and thrilling tell-all’s on the next season of Saddle Club, I fell madly in love with the interplay of words and images.

After graduating from university with a Bachelor of Communications and a major in how to eat mie goreng noodles 7 days a week, I soft-launched myself into the real world.

Drawn to creative magic, the power of music and the love of a good doof…

I landed a job working with artists and music festivals as a publicist. In Byron Bay.

My Instagram followers were thrilled.

But three years and 32 music festivals later (no exaggeration there), this human needed to become human again. I had a niggling feeling that this wasn’t quite ‘it’ for me. So I left my full-time job set out with a renewed conviction to find, and eventually return home to, my creative self.

Now, I’m sure this is the part where I’m supposed to tell you what a wonderful wordsmith I am…

Where I seduce you with synonyms and butter you up with persuasive prose.

But here’s why I’m really doing this dance: authentic and achingly beautiful connection. More of it. Truckloads of the stuff.

TOLD is an ode to the feeling we get when a passerby says hello. It’s writing ‘I love you’ on the shower glass and leaving it for someone else. It’s finding old film photographs, sending postcards even though it’s slow and expensive, a quick phone call that goes all night, and offering to take photos for a stranger.

We have the opportunity to create these moments every day. TOLD is mine, and maybe, it’ll be yours too.
